Thanks, Jay. I suppose I am committed now to letting folks know how the class goes. I'll take a selfie from the front of the class so that you can see all the red MAGA baseball caps!

I doubt a room full of red baseball caps will actually show up, but we all need something to needlessly worry about. Thanks for your support, Kathy!

Thanks so much for writing, Rein. Would be interesting to have you in the class...for the Dutch perspective! Thanks too for the Cromwell quote. Had to look that one up.

Hi Tom, I don't plan to lean on any of my own opinions, though those will undoubtedly become obvious. Still, I have a book discussion planned and will focus on what Dr. Gushee has to say about the constitution and the framers' intent and so on (and not on my own opinions). The book I've chosen has been reviewed several times, and I plan to incorporate those critiques as well. I usually worry about things for no reason (in spite of what the Bible clearly says about worry [smile emoji].)

The link to the HASP virtual classroom is https://hope.edu/offices/hope-academy-senior-professionals/virtual-hasp/ I don't know what HASP does with non-HASP members!

Today I returned from Mumbai, where Gandhi spent many years. In his home from that time is now a beautiful museum. Stick to Gandhi’s wisdom and eagerness to seek what is honest and true, not what is shouted most loudly. Wish I could be a fly on the wall during your lecture. Praying for peace, wisdom and a tranquil nature of love for humanity.

Doug, are you a Democrat?

I still have the letter Gerald Ford sent to me congratulating me for my high school graduation. He was my congressman, and I’m still thrilled about that letter. He was a good and decent man. I'd vote for him if I had a chance. As I recall, he was a Republican.

But how do you vote?

Doug. Why so evasive? Gerald Ford is not on the ballot. I voted for a Republican ever since I was 18. And I will again. I also am a Christian. So I suppose in your world I am a Christian Nationalist. I have been called worse by Democrats. Join the party.

Good luck with your class on Christian Nationalism. A couple of questions that seem to inform the discussion, are what were the intentions of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence regarding religion, and what does Constitution say about Christianity? For many of us, it was about freedom of religion, what I took to mean freedom to practice any religion. Others seem to say that the nation was founded on Christian ideals. It should be an interesting class!

I loved loved loved your sermons. I would walk into church not feeling great, and after the service, I would walk out a better person. So many people are trying to get back to their Christian roots. They are so lucky to be in your class. The class will exceed their expectations for sure.

Dear Pastor Dough,

Discussions are always good to do, since we all might gain more insight in this important topic; as long as we don’t come to Cromwell’s conclusion as he stated:

“KEEP YOUR FAITH HIGH AND YOUR GUNPOWDER DRY 🧐!”

Greetings, Rein Carlier
