The election precinct I worked in on Tuesday was a church with two flags on the stage. We thought (briefly) of moving the US flag so voters could find the voting machine, but I pointed out that the Christian flag would then be the highest. Some pastors just quietly remove all flags and nobody notices. We look forward to your Dutch columns, Doug.
This article is relevant for me now as I am finishing a six week visit in Switzerland and Croatia especially liked the part about language and culture. I hope your time in Europe is both enjoyable and fruitful. As Rick Steves says, “keep on traveling”
I followed your adventure on Facebook and was of course jealous of your long stay in Croatia. Happy anniversary! I'm so glad you were able to enjoy it with what looked like a big family.
Phenomenal post Doug. Looking forward to more. We spent over a month in CH but as you said it cannot approach living there. What package are you using to refresh your German? And where will get your language instruction in your new city.
I've been following your Swiss adventure thru Facebook and have been jealous. Also, happy for you! I won't be spending any more time on German, but will do my best to learn Dutch. I see that a church member has a language school, so I plan to start there! Tot ziens!
Doug, did you ever hear of Rev Scott Herr? He was the pastor at Int Church if Zürich from about 1988-1996, while I was there. He has lived and preached in many different countries, and is a fine person. Hope you have a great time living in The Hague!
Scott is a good friend. During the years I was in Zürich, he was pastor of the American Church in Paris. He's pastor of a church in Connecticut now. Thanks for the good wishes!
Vaya con Dios, Doug! Might we squeeze in a lunch this week before you're off to the Netherlands?

I got in some trouble one time when I moved the flags. Easier to move communion elements!

Thanks, it was thee first time our whole family was in the same place in many years. We really had a wonderful time.
Best wishes for safe travels and lively discussions!
Thanks, Linnea!
Will you eat herring that way?
I once saw my grandfather do it that way, so ... will give it a try!
I have a photo of our children eating herring the “right” way . It was on a family trip in 1971.
