In making a pilgrimage, there is both an outer journey and, if we are open to it, an inner journey. As the mystic Thomas Merton put it, you can have one without the other, but it is best to have both.
Where are you flying into? Where is your starting point? Did you make your own lodging arrangements? October should be less crowded…is the weather conducive to walking the Camino in October? Marsha and I have tossed Camino back and forth for a while.
Chicago to Porto! I was surprised that Porto has a major airport.
In 2019 for the Camino Frances I didn't plan anything except my arrival and departure. This time I'm working with Greenwalks, which is planning each night, plus getting my bag to the next stop.
My 2019 walk was amazing but risky too. At my age I think I need some help.
You didn't ask but I'm walking the central route. Less weather, more to see. The coastal route looks beautiful, but I've heard that it's not as interesting. Sometimes monotonous.
250 miles to Santiago! My wife is not interested. She would like a Air BnB on the ocean which we considered as well.
Ask me anything! Or the Camino Forums are great too.
So if you wanted to do the last 5 days on one of the in-bound Camino routes would it be best to fly into Santiago de Compostelo and then to bus to one’s starting point? We are trying to spend 10 days in Mallorca as well so the logistics are a bit more problematic. Not as easy as planning a Swiss trip!
Mmm, since I haven't done it that way, I don't know, but your plan sounds about right. Santiago de Compostela has a surprisingly good-sized airport. Another good thing to know is this forum where all of your questions (and more than you haven't asked) are answered...https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/ I'm jealous!
This is exciting news. I, too, would love to embark on a pilgrimage once my children are older. Can't wait to hear about how the journey went! 😁
Pastor Doug.
Walking the Paths of Wisdom, an amazing grace for wise pilgrims!

Thank you!
Excellent! I really want to do the Camino Frances. Will have to get some pointers from you!
Thanks, Christy. "Good shoes" is the I've got!
