Doug, wonderful read. It was wonderful to hear Dr Chacour when he spoke to our congregation years ago. Another unbiased writer on the Israeli\Palestinian situation is Gary Burge. Perhaps you’ve read him.
Hi Bob, I knew Gary in my Wheaton days. He taught at Wheaton College for 25 years. I understand that he now teaches at Calvin Theological Seminary, which isn't far from where I now live. I hope we make contact. I didn't have room enough to say all I wanted to say about Abuna, but importantly it was our mutual friend John O'Melia who suggested that everyone on that first visit to Israel read Blood Brothers. John knew of Abuna through the International YMCA. It was because of John that all 33 of us had a life-changing experience.
I agree wholeheartedly. Your assessment of this complicated travesty almost perfectly mirrors my own (without the personal relationship with Father Chacour, of course). I just wish there was a crisp, clean solution to the situation.

The only winners in this ugly conflict are the peacemakers.
“Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God” (words of Jesus; Matt.5:9)
What an honor to be a peacemaker!

I'm honored that you're a reader, Rein. I sense in you the heart of a peacemaker. Please greet my friends in Den Haag. Miss you all.

A good perspective on a difficult issue/time.
Greetings, neighbor, and thanks for reading.
